About Dr. Luo

Dr. Luo is a gifted expert in acupuncture with her office in Sarasota, Florida. She began her journey in the United States as a founding faculty member of East West College of Natural medicine in Sarasota, and was a senior practitioner at the Professional Clinic there for over ten years.

Dr. Luo graduated from Guang Zhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in China, as well as completed studies in western medicine at the Guang Zhou College of Western Medicine with a focus on ear, nose and throat and emergency medicine. She earned a post graduate degree in Education from Nanjing University of TCM. She was a professor at Guang Zhou University of TCM, while treating patients and training students at the Guang Zhou hospital of TCM for 13 years. During her tenure, she was appointed an honorable position, which only 200 people in China achieve, by the Ministry Personnel of China and the National Board of TCM. In this position as a successor of the renowned senior expert of TCM, she earned her Ph.D., by documenting the work of and advancing the academic and clinical experiences of Dr. Wang Dejian, a famous Ear, Nose and Throat specialist. She also became apprentice to the renowned TCM specialist in ob/gyn and infertility, Dr. Zheng Hua Luo. Her professional publications include co-authoring a university textbook with Dr. Wang Dejian called Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment of Ear, Nose and Throat which is used in Chinese universites, and writing the book entitled Wang Dejian's Theory of ENT. In the United States, she received her Ph.D., in TCM Infertility from the American Liberty University, for which she was awarded best paper in Infertility in 2005. Other honors include a research grant in China for cancer treatment; best paper in the World of Traditional Chinese Medicine '95; best research from Guang Zhou University of TCM '94.

 

About Dr. Scandin

Dr. Deborah Scandin has over 25 years combined experience in Acupuncture, Respiratory Therapy and Neuromuscular Massage. Dr. Luo is pleased to announce that Dr. Deborah Scandin has joined her practice.

Dr. Deb's journey started in CT at Sacred Heart University School of Respiratory Therapy. Upon graduation, she worked at Yale New Haven Hospital's trauma center focusing on Respiratory Therapy, trauma and emergencies throughout the hospital.

Her career moved to Sarasota, Florida where she studied Massage Therapy and completed advanced certifications in neuromuscular therapy (NMT). This includes a certificate in gross anatomy dissection, at the University of South Florida. In 2004, Dr. Deb graduated with her Masters from East West College of Natural Medicine. She opened a private practice focusing on respiratory disorders, acute and chronic pain and general wellness.

Dr. Deb is one of the few Acupuncturists in town that is also an expert in treating myofascial trigger points, muscular dysfunctions and injuries. The unique combination of acupuncture, NMT and injection, has proven to decrease acute and chronic pain and inflammation anywhere in the body.

One of Dr. Deb's greatest passions is in helping others to live an optimal life, without pain and suffering.

About Dr. Mei

With over thirty years of experience in acupuncture, TCM and herbology, Dr. Luo is pleased to announce that Dr. Wei H. Mei has joined her in practice. Dr. Mei's journey began in China at Guang Zhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Upon graduation he studied at the renown Fu Shan Orthopedic Hospital focusing on pain management, trauma and sports injuries. For the following ten years he remained at Fu Shan Hospital as an orthopedic surgeon.

His work in the United States began in 1997 when he opened a private acupuncture practice in New York. Since coming to Florida Dr. Mei was a professor here in Sarasota at the East West College of Oriental Medicine as well as a supervisor in the student clinic from 1999 thru 2001. Prior to joining Dr. Luo in May 2013, he had a private acupuncture practice in the Ft. Lauderdale area for a decade

Dr. Mei is one of only a few acupuncturists in the state who is skilled in the special technique of Tui Na, or Chinese Massage, which can dramatically reduce inflammation and pain. Used in China for 2,000 years, Tui Na is currently taught as a seperate speciality in the major traditional Chinese medical schools. It is especially beneficial for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. With their combined expertise our patients can now choose from an even broader array of traditional Chinese modalities to speed their recovery and maintain optimum health.
